On the way to Mr. Allaire's mansion, you walk past On the way to Mr. Allaire's mansion, you walk past a white building with a steeple. That is our Carriage House. With the increase in traffic to and from the village, as well as the ever increasing level of production at the Furnace, a new and enlarged Carriage House was needed. This new Carriage House was constructed of brick in 1833. Shortly afterwards a three story apartment, The Gardener’s Cottage, was added to the rear to provide accommodations for a full-time gardener.#allaire#NJHistory#NJParks#19thcentury#history

The Bakery building was built in 1835 to supply br The Bakery building was built in 1835 to supply bread for the village since most homes did not have bake ovens. It takes several hours to get the bake oven to heat. A fire is started in the oven and the heat is absorbed into the brick. When the oven reaches about 500 degrees Fahrenheit the coals are raked out through a metal door near the front of the oven. The bread is then added to the oven and bakes with the radiant heat.#Allaire#NJHistory#Funfact#NJParks#education

The first one was located halfway between the general store and the existing building, and if you’ll notice also on the far end of the carpenter’s shop, an addition to the building, that is now the wheelwright shop, and that was added in the year after, feeling he still needed more room, from the original carpenter’s shop.#allairevillage#NJHistory#NJParks#1830s#Funfact

The chapel served the village in threefold manner: The chapel served the village in threefold manner: a place of worship, a meeting place, and a school. The building was constructed in two sections. The first section (the entrance of the building) was constructed of old, recycled wood in 1832 in order to construct it quickly. The second section of the church was completed in 1836 and was made out of new wood; it was able to support the weight of the belfry. Most churches have the belfry at the front of the building, so it is unusual that our chapel has it on the back.#allairevillage#chapel#njhistory#funfacts
